Hello

I have a bit unusual question. Does any of you speak Russian?

Vasili Ershov (Russian airline captain for 35 years) sent me two copies
of his new book - "Thoughts of the sled dog". One copy is for me and
the other, according to Mr Ershov, is for "any of my friend who can
read Russian and is interested in aviation". None of my existing
friends satisfy both of these conditions :-)

The book is in Russian and describes side of the aviation mostly
unknown in the west. It is very interesting read and represents well
balanced mix of technology and human side of the aviation.

If you can read Russian, i will be glad to send you the book FOC. If
there are several people interested, the first one to reply will get it

Thanks
Lev

Nice offer from you. I cant read rusian unfortunately as I bet it's a damed
good read.

Mind you, if no one else wants it I'll have it and try to translate it! The
internet should make it easier to do and I'll post the interesting chunks up
here.

Thanks for you interest. Actually book in digital format is available
online for free from here:
http://www.siat.ru/?cid=113

But unfortunately i do not think you go far if you are relying on the
Internet based translation software. I have tried Alta Vista's Babel
Fish and to be honest, most of the translation simply does not make
sense. For example "you pause momentarily" is translated as "you die to
the instant", "we are landing guys" became "sit down ourselves,
children" and "captain has to create a team" is now "how hammers
together each captain his crew"

I have asked the author if there is an English version, because my
children are also interested and they can only read English, but
unfortunately no one translated it yet. So i am guessing that i will
just read it to kids, translating it as i go along.

May be, if there is enough interest from British public, author could
consider a translation. I don't really know, but could find out

As no one can read it here, then anyone who wants it can have it and
you David are first in line. If you are still interested, send me an
email with where to send it. There are no costs involved
