Having committed to taking a couple of friends away in an aircraft for a
couple of nights under canvas (in August), it now seems that the first
choice destination (Scillies) is full.

So I'm looking for a pleasant and interesting destination within 300nm
of Blackbushe that either allows camping on the airfield or that has a
reasonable campsite nearby. In a TB20 so need 600m runway (approx).

Alderney and Texel spring to mind, but I guess there must be others.
Quiberon (another possibility), I guess will be pretty mobbed in August.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

You may want to consider Ameland (EHAL) as well. The airfield is close
to the village of Ballum, with several campings nearby.

Consider Keiheuvel, Belgium EBKH.
Longish grass runway (looking more like savannah, these days...)
and intense glider activity including winch launches.
Lots of camping trailers, often belonging to glider pilots.
Quite a fine bar/restaurant on the airfield.
A nice covered swimming pool too, if memory serves.
The aeroclub has its own web pages at http://www.aeroclub-keiheuvel.be/
but they seem to be in local (Dutch) language only.
Feel free to ask for help in communicating with them!
Mind you this is a non-customs airfield so in all
theory you ought to stop enroute to clear customs.
Possible places for this are LFAC, EBOS, EBAW.
Not very long ago, police intercepted some narcotics
smugglers on the field so better mind you p's & q's.

Or if you come at the right date, visit the old-timer fly-in
at Schaffen EBDT. See http://flyin.dac.be/
Camping on the field is certainly allowed though your TB20
would not be parked among the old-timer display...
There's always been a fair number of UK pilots attending
so you certainly need not feel abandoned.

Ah! Bliss!
The finest aviation event I've ever been to.

Hi Bob,

Try Midden-Zeeland(EHMZ) in The Netherlands, there is a camping nearby.
Or else Dahlemer Binz(EDKV), it has a camping and hotel/restaurant on
the field.
