You often see reference to people doing JAA PPL training in the USA but
what of other countries? Say Australia, NZ, Canada, Spain anyone here know
of anyone or have experience themselves.

There is reportedly a UK CAA approved school in a place called Jerez
in Spain, but that's all I know.

I also read that the UK CAA is the only European CAA which has
approved any non-EU schools for JAA training. No idea of this is true;
if so, it would suggest they are more generous than the other EU
states's national authorities.

However, as has been written here before, the penalty of doing a plain
FAA PPL and then converting to a UK/JAA PPL is not really significant.
You end up doing a load of flight training in nice weather, away from
the distractions of home, and then you come back, sit the six CAA
exams and do a skills test... just make sure you have the CAA medical
done first :) You also end up with an FAA standalone PPL which ican
actually be worth a great deal.
