Post by RobPost by Andrew TaylorA recent flight departed Toronto and turned back after about 20 minutes. The
error was or sounded like 'the page file needs cranking'. Caused a lot of
work and the aircraft needed another 20 tons of fuel.
Any ideas what this means?
Thanks for any insight.
The most fuel used in flight is the departure and getting to the cruise
altitude.
This was a 40 minute flight you don't say where to.
a 777? which model
Range with 348,800-kg (768,980-lb) TOGW, for the 300ER, is limited by
fuel volume and is about 8000 miles(13000kms) A 200ER has, very slight,
more range. (This is not the MTOW figures)
Where did the sound come from and where did the work take place?
Do you have a date and an airline??
British Airways BA 92 Saturday 24th July. YYZ to LHR. Boeing 777-265ER, Reg
G-VIIE. It is just the error message as relayed by the captain to ground
crew that interests me, 'the Page file needs cranking'. The extra fuel is
something which I can easily understand, full plane, luggage and cargo on
take off burns a lot. The captain called ground and said he was turning back
and to tell the engineers the page file needs cranking. I asked a 767
captain and he didn't know the fault. To me it sounds like a computer fault.
The plane left for London and 20 minutes out, turned back to Toronto. Sorry
if I didn't make the question clear. I think it is only something that can
be answered by a 777 pilot. Of course eventually, I may meet the pilot
concerned, but I ask a lot of questions all the time.
